Anyone shoot 9mm Largo or 9x23 ?

I'm interested in acquiring some Spanish handguns but they all shoot 9mm Largo. Anyone know how these guns shoot ?

Astra 400 & Star Modelo are some key models.

I shoot 9x23 Winchester which is not the same as the 9mm Largo round. The 9x23 Winchester launches a 125-grain bullet at 1450 fps, putting it in the midst of .357 Magnum territory. I also load 147-grain bullets at 1400 fps in the 9x23 Winchester. In a 1911, it is like carrying a ten-round .357 Magnum with a great trigger. Mine has taken a few deer.

A buddy and I were just discussing this since he has a couple spanish Astra 9mm largo's. We decided that after reading several websites that although the Largo is almost the same as 38acp and can probably shoot regular 38 acp with no problems, the 38 super is too hot for the metalurgy of many guns out there. I wouldn't want to find out. Working up reloads over a chrono might be a better way to soup it up a little. He just bought a destroyer carbine with the hopes that it will be strong enough for 38 super. IIRC the Largo is a rimless cartridge while the 38 acp/super is a semi rimmed, which may cause some extractor wear issues with some guns - dunno. There is a bunch of berden primed NC ammo available for about .20 a round.

Cybergold - thanks for the input. If I pickup an Astra, I'll stick with the 9mm Largo rounds.

Here's a pic for those unfamiliar with the Astra 400:
